Editorial methodology

How we review robot mowers

Our recommendations begin with measurable yard conditions and distinguish published specifications from hands-on experience.

A mower earns a place in a comparison because it offers a credible fit for a particular yard—not because its manufacturer offers the highest commission.

1. We start with primary sources

We review current manufacturer product pages, manuals, warranty terms, support documentation and U.S. configuration details. Prices and promotions are dated because they change frequently.

2. We translate specifications into yard fit

Coverage alone is not enough. We compare mowable area, maximum grade, traction, navigation method, tree-cover tolerance, minimum passage width, multi-zone behavior, charging requirements and relevant safety features.

3. We label the evidence

A specification-led review is not described as hands-on testing. When we have not physically operated a mower, we say so prominently and avoid assigning an artificial performance score. Manufacturer claims are attributed rather than presented as independently verified facts.

4. We include reasons not to buy

Every useful review should explain who may be better served by another product or by no robot mower at all. We look for configuration complexity, subscriptions, accessory requirements, service availability, future-labelled features and conditions that may reduce real-world performance.

5. We update material changes

Model names, software capabilities, pricing and included hardware can change. Pages display an update date, and substantive corrections are made when better documentation becomes available.

Important: maximum slope, runtime and coverage are controlled-condition specifications. Wet grass, soft ground, turning, obstacles and battery condition can change real-world results.
